Taita Falcon Lodge

DestinationVictoria Falls
Taita Falcon is an exclusive luxury safari lodge perched on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, overlooking the mighty Zambezi. The river can be viewed raging by (200m below) and the views are simply amazing. Getting to Taita Falcon can be quite easy or somewhat difficult – depending on the time of year. During the rainy season it’s a bit of a mission, as you need to travel for approximately half an hour on a tough but fairly well maintained dirt road. The transfers are done using 4x4 vehicles, and the scenery on the way is really beautiful, so this isn’t too gruelling. During the dry season an alternative road is used - this trip is much shorter and easier to navigate, and takes about 15 minutes. Once you get to the lodge though, you start to understand why someone would want to build a lodge in such a remote location. The view from the top of the gorge is absolutely astonishing. We couldn’t believe that a place could be this beautiful! There is a self-drive option – but it requires a raised vehicle during the dry season and a 4x4 when the rains come. For a more luxurious transfer, a helicopter is available (at an added cost) to transfer you to and from your lodgings. The helicopter ride offers amazing views of the green bush, the gorges and of course the Victoria Falls. But if you choose to take the normal route, you could always go for a helicopter ride over the Victoria Falls and through the gorges as one of your activities – simply awesome.

Area Attractions

Accomodation at Taita Falcon Taita Falcon’s accommodation consists of seven spacious chalets with large en-suite bathrooms. The exterior of the chalets is constructed of natural materials and the entire place has a ‘close-to-nature’ feel about it. The walls are made of reeds that come up to ¾ level – creating just the right balance between privacy and ‘freedom’. Of the seven chalets, three can be converted into family rooms sleeping up to 5 people, while the remaining four can be made up as double, twin or triple rooms. The mosquito nets hang from frames connected to the wooden beams in the roof, and extra ones (for families) can easily be added. They also have repellent coils in the rooms to make your nights as peaceful as possible. During the colder winter months hot water bottles are placed in the beds to make them warm and cosy. Each room has a little sitting area with beautiful wooden furniture. The beds are also made of wood and each chalet is a little bit different compared to its neighbour – making it more personal. The rooms are partially open and extremely beautiful. All the furniture is made of wood and other natural materials, and the rooms have a fresh feel to them. The bathrooms are also very unique with stonework basins and showers. Some of the chalets even have outdoor showers in their private gardens. Two more chalets are currently being built, earmarked as executive or honeymoon suites. These are much closer to the edge and will have bathrooms that overlook the beautiful gorge. Dining at Taita Falcon All meals are included in the fare – which is especially great if you plan to spend a lot of time at the lodge - just enjoying the view. The bar is a nice ‘chill-out’ spot and offers a good selection of drinks as well as a selection of bird and wildlife books for the nature lovers. They have all kinds of memorabilia decorating the thatched structure and even a leather print of a Taita Falcon. Dinner is served in the open sided dining area of the lodge and takes the form of a 3 course buffet. This consists of various vegetables, salads and light and dark meats. Barbeques are also held in the evenings and these take place in the outdoor Boma by the swimming pool. If guests are staying for a number of nights they try to keep it interesting and organise a selection of different dining venues and options. You can also choose to enjoy a romantic dinner in your private garden. On days that you choose to go out on an activity that will take up a large part of your day, the staff pack a nice picnic lunch to take along – so you never have to worry about paying for extra meals or going hungry. Taita Falcon will gladly accommodate special dietary needs but we request that you inform us of your requirements well in advance of your travel to ensure sufficient time for preparation.
