Shindzela Tented Campis located in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, greater Kruger Park: We know that an African safari is a very special experience – we invite you to join us for a journey of discovery on a kruger walking safari and / or game drive wildlife safari, in the greater Kruger Park, South Africa. Shindzela is a tented safari camp, set in a traversing area within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of the greater Kruger National Park, South Africa. We offer guests an old fashioned Kruger safari – enjoy an exciting wildlife safari in an unfenced wilderness environment. The camp has no power – it runs on solar energy. We are undisturbed by modern conveniences such as television and cell phones, preferring to immerse ourselves in the African wilderness. There is a waterhole in front of camp.

Shindzela Tented Safari Camp Amenities

Each tent lodge has a wooden entrance door, adjustable canvas flaps for windows, and mesh to keep insects. All tents have a thatch roof and porch, designed to cool the tents in summer. Tents are equipped with 2 x 3/4 beds, solar lighting, all bedding, and towels, private shower, handbasin and flush toilet. In summer, mosquito nets are fitted above the beds. Swimming pool towels are provided in camp. - The general Shindzela tented camp area encompasses a swimming pool, dining tent, kitchen, staff tents and a central African fireplace – a perfect spot to relive safari experiences around the fire.

Directions To Shindzela Tented Safari Camp

From Johannesburg: From Johannesburg or O R tambo Airport, follow signs for the N12 Witbank. Travel east on the N12, until the N12 and the N4 from Pretoria merge – it is now the N4 highway. From Pretoria: Take the N4 highway to Witbank. Please note that you will pass through a toll (currently R39 in cash) – if travelling from Pretoria, you will travel through two tolls (currently R65) Tolls need to be paid in cash – no credit cards. Fuel will also need to be paid for in cash (only a few service stations in cities take credit card payments for fuel / gas / petrol) Fuel is currently about R8.00 per litre. Continue past Witbank and Middleberg, staying on the N4 highway. Continue on the N4, and take the R33 offramp to Belfast. From Belfast, follow the R540 to Dullstroom and Lydenburg (now known as Mashishing). From Lydenburg follow the R36 to Ohrigstad and Tzaneen. (In Lydenburg town centre, do not follow the signs RIGHT to Kruger and Sabie) Travel through Ohrigstad, and then on through the Abel Erasmus pass and through the JG Strydom tunnel. Once through the tunnel, continue on the R36 until you see the R36 turning to the left to Tzaneen. DO NOT take this left turning to Tzaneen, but continue straight on what is now the R527 to Hoedspruit. On arrival in Hoedspruit, travel straight through town (through 2 stop street intersections) until you reach a 4 way stop - turn right on the R40 (White River) Travel some 7 km's out of town, and take the left turning marked Timbavati and Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport. Travel through the Guernsey Control Gate Continue to travel along this road, past the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport and past Kapama Game Reserve. Continue, until you reach the Timbavati Game Reserve entrance gate (A large thatch structure) It is here that you pay your gate entry fees of R110 per person and R120 per vehicle. From the Timbavati gate, travel about 12/13 km’s, and take a right turning following pointers to JONNIESDALE / NGALA. Continue along this dirt road for about another 6 or 7 kilometres, and at a 4 way junction, turn LEFT, following the JONNIESDALE / NGALA pointers. Continue straight on this road, and at approximately 6km’s further, you must follow the green sign to NGALA Private Game Reserve (ignore the Jonniesdale sign at this point). At the next NGALA sign, follow the sign for NGALA DELIVERIES to the right. 400 metres further you will see another NGALA sign - follow the RIGHT fork in this road, where you see the SHINDZELA sign. Drive through the riverbed and continue straight with the NGALA airfield running parallel on your LHS. Take the Shindzela right turning. Continue to follow SHINDZELA signs. Pass the old camp of white rondawels, and continue to Shindzela Bush Camp. Driving time from Johannesburg to the Timbavati gate is approximately 5.5 / 6 hours. Entrance fees: At the entrance to the Timbavati Reserve, please pay your entrance fees in cash: R110.00 per person conservation levy and R120 per vehicle. Keep your permit, as the lodge will have to stamp it for you when you leave. Once in the Timbavati, sped is limited to maximum 50 km’s an hour.

The day begins with an early morning wake up call at about 05h00. Enjoy a welcome cup of tea or coffee and biscuits, before departing on a morning game viewing activity. Return to camp at mid morning for a hearty breakfast brunch. Relax in camp until lunch in the afternoon, after which is is time to depart on the afternoon drive. The best time to view game on your African safari, are the early hours of the morning and during the late afternoon. This is when most game is active – during the heat of the day, many animals tend to seek shade and are less active. Night game drives with a spotlight bring you in to contact with nocturnal animals such as Bush babies, Civets, Genets, African wild cats, Porcupines and so forth.
