Sanctuary Olonana

DestinationKenya
This small and exclusive camp, the first of Sanctuary's luxury safari properties, was built along sustainable lines which, along with our innovative wetlands and tree-planting projects, have earned Sanctuary Olonana a silver award from Ecotourism Kenya. The Masai Mara is fabulous for seeing big cats, their prey and all the Big Five. It is also the stage for the greatest show on Earth - the wildebeest migration. Sanctuary Olonana's main dining room and veranda command views over a dramatic stretch of the Mara River. See, and hear, the family of noisy hippos who colonise the banks below the camp. Experience first hand the sheer scale of the annual wildebeest migration across East Africa. The camp has a library, a pool and even an organic garden where much of the food served in camp is grown. And who could forget the mini-spa where guests can experience traditional African remedies alongside French marine therapies from Thalgo.

This is an excellent camp. Great food, friendly staff and very competent guides. The accomodation is luxurious (in particular considering it is a tented camp), they wash your clothes unpromted, they serve food and drinks in the tent at odd hours and help organizxe your every need. mr King, the manager, takes care of all your needs and really makes an effort to fulfil any and all requirements you may have. I would highly recommend a visit if you choose to go to the Masai Mara.

This was a great spot in the Masa Mara. The location along the river was magical with the hippos frolicking in the water. Mr, King was the manager and a great host to accomodate your needs. Big John the chef did a great job - they even have a pizza oven! Our driver Abdul was excellent. Spa was nice as was the pool. Rooms were nice sized and very attractive. We would recommend it highly.

We spent 4 nights here in late February early March and were impressed in all aspects of our stay. Location, service, food, cleanliness and attention to detail were all superlative. Our family (all adults) occupied 3 tents and I thought all were charming. You literally only need to bring good shoes, a few toiletries and a few clothes. Not only is the laundry cost included but basic toiletries, sun block, bug spray, ponchos and a hair dryer, are provided. The staff will adjust meals, games drives and activities to your whim. We loved the bed time stories and the general Eco-friendly vibe of the camp. Abdul, Christine, Mr. King, and Big John were fun and very kind. We even got to leave a bit of ourselves behind (planting trees in our names) through their Forestry Initiative. Be prepared to be jostled as roads in the area deteriorate (wash out) at certain times of the year. Overall, Olonana is a special place.

The rooms were very nice and luxurious and it was so cool to be right next to the river with all of the Hippo's in it. The food was amazing and the Safari's were the best part! We went all around the park and at night we drove on top of the escarpment and had cocktails, definitely an unforgettable moment. We saw so many animals and the guides were amazing. Very beautiful,If you are going to Africa you have to come here!
