Sun-kissed beaches, an azure ocean boasting natural coral reefs teeming with exotic fish, breathtaking sunsets and a tropical climate combine to create the perfect setting for an unforgettable getaway. Nosy Iranja is known as Turtle Island for the Hawksbill Turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs. Comprising two islands linked by a 1.2km sandbar, Nosy Iranja is home to the luxurious Iranja Lodge boasting absolute tranquillity, idyllic honeymoon experiences and natural beauty. Nosy Iranja is the only island in Madagascar that is visited by two of the world's eight turtle species. Both the endangered Hawksbill Turtle and the Green Sea Turtle come ashore to lay their eggs on the beach. Watch as the turtles frolick in the water while you enjoy a meal in the restaurant or come down onto the beach to watch the eggs hatch and the newly hatched turtles take their maiden voyage into the ocean. Staff on the island work closely with Kelonia's staff to ensure that these turtles are not disturbed by human contact and have appointed a member of staff to look after these protected species. Four species of dolphin are found in this area and can be seen either from your terrace or by going out on one of the planned excursions with Iranja Lodge staff. Humback dolphins are calm in comparison with other dolphin species and are typically seen in groups of less than 10. Spinner dolphins are "players". They follow the boat and jump. These dolphins are often seen during the boat transfer from Nosy Be to the lodge. They can be seen in groups of 10 to 200. Bottlenose Dolphins prefer to be isolated. They are seen mostly in the Mozambican Channel in groups of 4 or 5 and typically stay away from the boats. Melon-headed Whales are playful dolphins that are found in the Mozambican Channel in groups of 50 to 200.

Sleeping up to four adults (with an option to add two more beds for children under the age of 12), the Deluxe Family Suites are surrounded by natural tropical gardens and offer sea views, king-size beds, ceiling fans, minibars, CD players, tea and coffee-making facilities, and digital safes. The bathrooms offer fantastic sunrise views and are each fitted with a maxi shower, twin basins, a hairdryer, a magnifying mirror, bathrobes, guest supplies and a separate toilet. To ensure a romantic and private getaway, each Suite has its own private terrace, which is equipped with two sunbeds, a hammock, two armchairs, two long chairs and a terrace table overlooking stunning views of natural gardens.

Directions To Nosy Iranja Lodge

Iranja Lodge is situated on Nosy Iranja off the north west coast of the Madagascan mainland. The lodge is situated on the smaller of two islands which are joined by a 1.2km sandbank which, together, make up Nosy Iranja. Iranja Be, the larger of the two, offers an interesting array of sites, including a lighthouse built by Gustav Eiffel. The smaller of the two, Iranja Kely is home to Iranja Lodge.

Area Attractions

Madagascar is known as a Natural Reserve as it is home to 5% of World's plant and animal species, including lemurs and over a thousand endemic species of orchids. For this reason, Iranja Lodge has committed itself to being environmentally friendly, dedicated to the preservation of the species which are found on the two islands making up Nosy Iranja. The lodge, conjunction with Kelonia (Observatory of Sea Turtles and Research Center) in Reunion, runs a full time project for the protection of the endangered sea turtles that come ashore. Animals on the island are neither dangerous nor threatening to humans. The whale season lasts from the beginning of August until the middle of December. There are two species found in the area and can sometimes be seen from the lodge. Humpback whales are calmer then other species and get up to 15m away from the boat. They are known for their aquatic games. The Fin or Common whale are good players who perform aquatic games and like to play and jump. There are five species of shark you may encounter on a dive in this area. The Whale Shark is a non-aggressive species of shark that can usually be seen between November and January. These sharks often stay on the surface of the water. Reef Sharks (comprised of White Tip Shark and the Black Tip Shark) are non-aggressive and can be found from 14m below the surface of the water. The Leopard Shark is also a non-aggressive shark that can be found at a depth of around 22m. The non-aggressive Hammerhead Shark can be found at any depth, and the aggressive Grey Shark can be found in the drop of the sea from 35m to 40m below the surface and stays only in cold sea water (Mozambican Channel side of the island).
