From Johannesburg, take the N4 Highway to Komatipoort. Do not turn off the N4 into Komatipoort but rather continue towards the Lebombo border post. En route to the border post you should stop and buy your compulsory 3rd party insurance from the BP Garage at the shopping complex or purchase at the border on the Mozambican side at the many kiosks. This is mandatory for Mozambique. The 2007 cost is R150 per car. Continue to the Lebombo border post. Once through the border continue straight on the EN4 to Maputo. Approximately 40km after the border you will arrive at the Moamba toll plaza. The cost is 90 000 meticas (= R25.00).(After the tollgate there is an alternative route via Moamba to to Xai Xai, this will pass through Xinavane. This road is only recommended for four wheel drive vehicles. Also avoid this route in the rainy season because the road may be blocked by flash floods. Total distance about 100 Km. This will leave you about 100 Km short of Xai Xai). Continue on the EN4 and you will come into the outskirts of Maputo. At the 4 way intersection with traffic lights, you will turn left for Maputo and then pass through a 2nd toll plaza (17 000 Meticas = R5.00). Continue for a few km until you see the sign for Xai Xai (EN1). Turn left and follow the EN1 from Maputo for about 200km until you reach the town of Xai- Xai. You only pay a toll at the bridge on your return trip (+-R8-R9). Travel almost through the town until you see the 2nd BP garage on the left. Approximately 300m after this garage turn right to Praia de Xai Xai (see signboard to the beach. GPS: 25 03 22 69S; 33 40 19 86E). Travel for about 9.5km until you reach a traffic circle, keep left and follow the tar road to the beach front (500m). At the beach front turn left onto the dirt road and travel north along the sea shore (pass the caravan park and Haley Hotel on your left hand side) for about 2.65km. You will see the entrance to Xai Xai Beach Resort on your left (GPS 25 06 34 25S; 33 45 30 09E). Watch out for bumps and a sandy patch along this road. Most cars can get through the sand without any problems. When enquiring from locals as to the whereabouts of the resort, they all know it as " Xai Xai Beach Hotel" which was its previous name. The entrance to Xai-Xai Eco-Estate is just beyond the entrance to Xai-Xai Beach Resort. Go up the hill and look out for number 8. Ask the guard for directions where Jeff, the houseboy will be waiting for you.Area Attractions

Great tidal pool for the kids to learn to snorkel, protected with great visibility at low tide. Depth up to 6 meters deep. (Keep away from the blow hole on top of the reef.
