This small, casual guesthouse is situated near Bwejuu on one of the best stretches of beach on the south-east coast Zanzibar, surrounded by palm trees, powder-soft sand and blue ocean.
The place has a personal feel and is renowned for serving some of the best food on the island. The establishment has a lovely little swimming pool which is a welcome relief when the tide is out.
Sunrise is a very simple guesthouse set in tropical gardens with quiet spots to chill out and read a book.
The rooms are all simple, but clean and comfortable. They are decorated with dark-wood furniture and bright-red or orange bedspreads. Some have Zanzibari style beds, other simple canopies. All the rooms have mosquito nets and en-suite tiled bathrooms with a shower.
There are 12 rooms, with a choice of bungalows or standard rooms. Theres a lovely bar area and fantastic restaurant which serves mainly European cuisine.

Accommodation at Sunrise Guesthouse
Sunrise Guesthouse offers its guests 12 simple but clean, comfortable and cool self-contained rooms which have been decorated according to the local style with bright red or orange bedspreads all with en-suite bathrooms and are divided into a choice of sea view bungalows directly on the beach facing the sea or standard rooms which are located a bit further back and have views of the landscape gardens.
The Sea View Bungalows are by far the better rooms, located slightly away from the main building and despite having being arranged in a way that there are 2 bedrooms per bungalow, they still provide a sense of privacy with thatched leaves and wooden railing in front of your room facing the sea.
The standard rooms offer less charm and are smaller in size located at the back of the guesthouse looking out into the gardens.
All the rooms are equipped with en suite bathroom facilities with hot and cold water, mosquito nets and ceiling fans. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms since, along the coast at Sunrise Guesthouse there is a refreshing cooling breeze.
Dining at Sunrise Guesthouse
If you like excellent gourmet food, a nice cold fresh juice or drink served at the sociable little bar, a rich dinner of fresh seafood in creamy sauces followed by a Belgian-chocolate mousse all served in a friendly way and with a smile then you’ll like Sunrise Guesthouse even more.
Sunrise Guesthouse lovely bar area and fantastic restaurant (that has the reputation of being one of the best in the Island) mainly specializes in European cuisine with a strong French influence.
The food is out of this world, and it’s all prepared with the best local ingredients and very reasonably priced that caters for all tastes. Along side this there is a good selection of local and imported wines that you can enjoy with your chosen meal.

There are good snorkelling spots in walking distance.
If you want to dive or try out some watersport, Breezes Beach Club is the closest option.
