Owner-managers Paul and Marjolein have lovingly refurbished the interior of this 80-year-old Cape-Dutch style house with a touch so sure that the air of serenity remains virtually undisturbed. Somerset West, nestling in the valley below the Hottentots Holland mountains, is ideally placed for energetic pursuits such as cycling tours under the personal guidance of Paul and mountain hikes of varying degrees of difficulty, with Marjolein as guide. A minimum of 5-6 guests is required for each. For the less athletic, theres the Helderberg wine route with excellent estates close to the town, and a selection of beaches nearby only 10 minutes to Strand, for instance, and 15 minutes to Gordons Bay. Historic Stellenbosch is a mere 20-minute drive away.
Stellendal is conveniently situated on the fringes of the Somerset West business hub, so guests are within walking distance of shops and a cosmopolitan buzz of restaurants. In a break with tradition, the guest house offers guests a wide choice of breakfasts at nearby restaurants and coffee shops, at a discount, so you can sample the best!
The seven en-suite double bedrooms offer guests a taste of Africa, the Bushman room and the Ndebele room, for instance. The accent is on simplicity and comfort; so, for example, the beds are extra-long, and low-level heating keeps the indoor temperature pleasant. Gleaming wood, padded sofas and a large fireplace accentuate the elegance of the lounge/dining room. Here guests can gather for a drink, or if they wish enjoy a home-prepared dinner. The three cottages offer all the conveniences the traveller needs for a comfortable stay, and children can also be accommodated.

Driving Directions:
From Capetown International Airport
Once you leave the airport take a left turn at the sign SOMERSET WEST. After 32 kilometres you leave the highway at exit 43 (Somerset West). You turn left at the traffic lights. After 1 kilometre you turn right at the traffic lights into Mainroad. The Stellendal Guest House is after approximately 3km situated on your right hand side on Mainroad 169 just before you are entering the shopping street.
From Port Elizabeth
Down Sir Lowry's Pass, along the N2. Turn right into Victoria Street at the third traffic light on the N2 in Somerset West (Exit 22). Turn left at the 4th traffic light into Main Road. After 2 traffic lights we are on your left hand side, Mainroad 169.
From Stellenbosch
Enter Somerset West on the R44. Travel on the R44 (south) from Stellenbosch to Somerset West / Strand. At the first set of traffic lights on R44 in Somerset West, turn left into Main Road. The Stellendal Guest House is now situated on your right hand side on Mainroad 169.
