Shimuwini is a Shangaan phrase meaning "Place of the Baobab Tree". The camp is so named because the nearby Letaba River which fronts the cottages, is lined with these huge trees, one of them estimated to be between 2 000 or 3 000 years old.
Shimuwini Bushveld Camp is the most modern of the bushveld camps, being completely rebuilt after the floods in 2000.
The nearest shops to Shimuwini Camp are in the Letaba and Mopani restcamps. Shimuwini Camp has a Bird Hide that offers guests the opportunity to get a closer look at the birdlife on the Shimuwini Dam. April through to August is a good time for game viewing from the hide, which looks over to the far bank.
Activities on a suggested itinerary that can be arranged in Kruger Park are morning game drives, night game drives and guided bush walks. Game drives enable you to take part in the activities of Kruger's secretive creatures, in the company of experienced guides and trackers.

Accommodation - Shimuwini Camp
With lovely views over the water, these Family and Guest cottages give guests an excellent chance to view game and waterbirds on the far bank. Crocodiles, as well as Hippopotamus reside within the dam. Shimuwini Camp can accommodate up to 71 visitors at its Kruger accommodation.
Shimuwini Camp's 9 two-bedded family cottages can sleep 5 and has ceiling fans and an en-suite bathroom.
Five 2-bedroom Kruger accommodation guest cottages, each with two single-bedded bedrooms, are cooled by ceiling fans. Each holiday cottage comes with a kitchen-diningroom located on an open verandah.
There is also one 3-bedroom cottage. Each room has two single beds, a ceiling fan, an en suite bathroom with a bath and a toilet. There is also an outside shower for a private shower under the stars.
The living room has 2 lounge chairs, and a ceiling fan while the inside kitchen boasts an oven and stove.
