Bwindi Impenetrable Forest impresses with a truly theatrical landscape - this is a region of volcanoes, jagged valleys, waterfalls, lakes and dramatic mountain ranges. And it is here, on a flat ridge high in the forest, that Sanctuary's Gorilla Forest Camp is tucked away. The camp has an airstrip 40 minutes away where most guests arrive, but can also be reached by car in eleven hours from Kampala.
It's hard to fathom that such luxury and sophistication could be available in an area as remote as this, and we did face enormous logistical obstacles - but it was worth the wait.
Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is the ideal base for a gorilla tracking adventure in Bwindi. Once in a while the gorillas even wander into the camp itself. Guests can dine under the stars and relax by the roaring campfire. On cooler evenings, the central cottage provides a warm shelter.

Accommodation is in eight large en-suite ‘tents’ which have two queen-sized beds and a bathtub
looking out onto the forest - ideal for soaking away aches and pains after a day searching for gorillas in the forest. The camp has a bar and
dining cottage overlooking the rainforest, as well as a raisednatural platform for open-air dining. Guests can sit around the cozy campfire at night and enjoy Bwindi's crystal clear mountain sky. There is a small gift shop at the
camp offering a variety of local artifacts and practical supplies.240 volt electricity is supplied for lighting, and recharging of videos,
laptops and telephones.
Area Attractions
Bwindi has much to offer for the adventurous traveller. Guided Forest Walk Take a guided forest walk through the forest and you may see some of the 350 species of birds, 11 kinds of primates, forest duiker antelopes,rare forest elephant, giant forest hog or over 200 species of butterflies that live here. Community interaction Walk through the area meeting tea pickers, see how beer is made from bananas, visit the local clinic and even a traditional medicine man. The visit ends with a performance by the Batwa pigmy community.
