Around 100 Inshore Bottlenose and Spinnerdolphins reside in Ponto do Ouro's sheltered waters, and numerous humpback whales pass through here in the winter months. Various reefs can be explored by divers, varying in depth from 10-40 meters. These coral reefs are home to a teeming variety of marine life - rockcod, potatoebass, wrasse, parrotfish, angelfish, sharks and eels all add to the wonderful and vibrant underwater scenery, punctuated occasionally by the clicks and whistles of dolphins and by the haunting calls of whales.
Ponta Do Ouro is rapidly becoming recognized as one of the top dive and beach destinations in Southern Africa . These world-class dive sites are still in pristine condition and were featured, amongst others, in both Getaway Magazine - Africa 's premier eco-tourism magazine and on MNET TV on two separate occasions.
