Fishing is excellent at Xai Xai, every boat charter catches fish on every launch so far, shore fishing is good at certain times of the year, especially from May to July, which is Kingfish time. The Zambezi Sun is a fairly classy and colourful three star resort on the banks of the Zambezi, right next to the Victoria Falls. Both the Victoria Falls and Livingstone Airports are situated nearby (10 and 30km respectively) and Livingstone Town is a few minutes away by car. The hotel forms part of Sun International’s new The Falls resort complex on the banks of the Zambezi and is the sister hotel of the Royal Livingstone.
The guest rooms have been built in a circle surrounding the large, uniquely shaped swimming pool, and closely resemble a walled city. The adobe-style architecture is earthy and understated. The rooms are bright and airy with colourful fabrics and mosaic patterns, while the room finishes are simple, clean and practical. We really liked the bathroom mirror designs.
The falls are only a stone’s throw away and the cloud of spray can be seen from various parts of the hotel.
Mealtime is exciting as there are various options of dining facilities available, from the hotel’s central dining room to the Poolside Grill, the coffee shop, restaurants, steakhouse and of course - room service. There are even vending machines close to the guest rooms to satisfy that niggly craving for something sweet.

The Zambezi Waterfront is situated approximately 4 kilometres upstream from the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. The complex is designed to attract a young and adventurous crowd. There is a fantastic central dining area with fantastic views up and down the river. The accommodation consists of tented and brick and mortar rooms. The tents share ablution facilities and are more for the adventure traveller. The 10 standard rooms are located in semi detached thatched triangular buildings spotted around the property. These rooms are very comfortable with a lovely bush ambience. The rooms are all en suite with hot and cold water, double or twin beds and a lovely veranda where you can sit and relax. They also have 6 riverside suites which are stunning. These are the same size as the standard rooms, but located close to the river. There are 2 executive suites and 2 family rooms which can sleep 4 very comfortably in one room.
All meals are served from the central dining rooms. Cuisine is an international affair with meals being served from the buffet for breakfast and the a la carte menu for lunch and dinner.

Zongoene Lodge is situated at the mouth of the Limpopo River approximately 225km north of Maputo Mozambique and approximately 8km by sea from Praia de Xai Xai. The Lodge is situated on 7 ha, which is surrounded by pristine coastal forests, dunes and beaches. These forests, dunes and beaches stretch for miles on either side of the mouth of the river. The Former President of Mozambique, His Excellency Joaquim Chissano, officially opened the Lodge in October 1997.
Every effort was made to construct the Lodge from local materials using local labour. Chamfuti (Pod Mahogany) wood was processed on site to construct finishings and furniture, while the majority of the roofs are thatched. During the course of construction more than 300 artisans like bricklayers, carpenters, thatchers, wood carvers etc from the surrounding villages were trained.
The local fauna and flora was carefully considered when planning and laying out the Lodge. As many of the trees and palms were retained as was possible. More than 1000 palms and other indigenous plants were planted creating a wonderful and lush garden.
The Lodge skippers are trained in tag and release techniques and we encourage our guests to adopt this practice. The Lodge supplies the Oceanographic Research Institute in Durban with valuable data concerning the sea life around the Lodge.
