Okavango and Chobe Trail Northbound - 8 Day Camping Tour (NJV)
Johannesburg, South Africa
Chobe National Park, Okavango Delta, Victoria Falls
From Johannesburg we make our way to visit the Khama Rhino Sanctuary before heading to Maun in Botswana to prepare for our Okavango Delta experience. Photograph hippos and crocodiles from your Mokoro (dugout canoe) before heading up to Chobe National Park. In Chobe, we take a river cruise where you can sip on an ice cold sundowner while watching elephants playing in and crossing the river only metres away. Finish up the tour with endless activities in Victoria Falls. You can also choose to do this tour from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg, or combine it with our 5 Day Best of Zimbabwe tour.
Day 1 - Botswana – Tuli Block
We depart Johannesburg and head north, crossing the border into Botswana. Our accommodation tonight is situated in the area known as the Tuli Block, which is a narrow piece of land between Botswana and Zimbabwe and is renowned for it’s geographical features. Upon arrival at our overnight stop, we will enjoy an game drive through the reserve, which is home to many species of animals including giraffe, hippo, hyena, zebra and gemsbok.
Day 2 – Maun
Today we rise early and depart for Maun where we will spend the night. Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta and this afternoon we will prepare for the Okavango Delta Excursion. Your guides will provide you with a briefing about the next days’ activities.
Day 3 - Okavango Delta
Today we journey north to Etsha where we head to our camp on the banks of a beautiful lagoon. We then depart on our boat cruise to Seronga via the winding channels of the Delta. A vehicle transfer sees us arrive at our base for the next two nights. After arrival, we settle in and prepare for our afternoon mokoro trip that ends with sundowners overlooking the waterways of the Delta. The evening is spent around the campfire.
Day 4 - Okavango Delta
An early start sees us head off on the crystal clear waters of the Okavango. Water lily beds and palm islands make for the most scenic of experiences. We make our way to one of the larger islands for our nature walk, where we have the possibility of seeing some of the abundant wildlife. A breakfast awaits us after our walk. We return to camp to relax before heading out on our afternoon sunset cruise.
Day 5 – Kasane
Today we bid farewell to the Delta and head north. After being re-united with our truck, we enter Namibia and travel through the Caprivi Strip, crossing three parks enroute to Chobe National Park. This area is an important migration route from Botswana to Angola for many game species. We arrive in the late afternoon where we will set up camp for the next 2 nights.
Day 6 – Kasane
Established in 1968, the Chobe National Park covers approximately 11700 sq kms, encompassing floodplains, swamps and woodland. Take advantage of your time here by enjoying a game drive through the park, in search of vast herd of elephants and a multitude of antelope including the rare sable.
Day 7 - Zimbabwe – Victoria Falls
On arrival in Victoria Falls we have time to plan the next day’s adventure activities before we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls and experience the thundering of the mighty Zambezi as it drops over 100m into the gorge below.
Day 8 - Victoria Falls
Although your tour officially ends after breakfast, most people will spend the day White Water Rafting, a not-to-be-missed experience of a lifetime! Vic Falls offers many exciting activities so we recommend you add a post-tour night here.
