Area Attractions

Things to do and places to visit So much to do, so many places to visit..... and so little time. Possibly you should look at extending your stay at Life Hotels Chic - New Kings. You certainly won't regret your decision of staying a little longer in Cape Town, nor at Life Hotels Chic - New Kings. So what is there to do and what places should you visit.

Table Mountain
No one should visit Cape Town and not take the cable car up to the pinnacle of the mighty and imposing Table Mountain. For the energetic who enjoy a good hike, few hiking trails offer the reward of reaching the top of this world famous and world heritage site known as Table Mountain.

Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront
Another must visit Cape Town landmark, the V&A Waterfront with its bustling restaurants, excellent shopping opportunities and the busy Cape Town harbour as a backdrop will have you wanting to visit this Cape Town icon more than once.

Robben Island
Often misspelled as Robbin Island or Robin Island, the correct spelling is in fact Robben Island. Possibly most famous as the penal colony on which Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for much of the 23 years he suffered at the hands of the apartheid government, Robben Island also has an interesting history dating back to the days of the early Dutch settlers when they first colonised the Cape of Good Hope. Daily ferries plough their way between the V&A Waterfront and Robben Island daily (weather permitting).

The Cape Wine Routes
Visited by wine lovers from around the world, the Cape Wine Routes are an absolute must when visiting Cape Town. If you are without transport you can either hire a car and drive yourself through the scenic wine valleys or our reception desk can assist you in arranging a suitable tour with an approved tour operator.

Kirstenbosch Gardens
The world renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens world-renowned for the beauty and diversity of the Cape flora it displays and for the magnificence of its setting against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Kirstenbosch grows only indigenous South African plants. The estate covers 528 hectares and supports a diverse fynbos flora and natural forest. The cultivated garden (36 hectares) displays collections of South African plants, particularly those from the winter rainfall region of the country.

With its diverse cultural make up, Cape Town offers splendid opportunity for the theatre lover ranging from traditional African dance to jazz, stand-up comedy, ballet and theatre.
Some of the theatres include

•Theatre on the Bay (Camps Bay) - upmarket contemporary theatre, including restaurant.

•On Broadway (Greenpoint) - revues, cabaret and world-class drag

•Baxter Theatre Complex (Rondebosch) - contemporary theatre

•Maynardville Open-Air Theatre (Wynberg) - Shakespeare with a local twist

•Armchair Theatre (Observatory) - anything goes, a variety of local artists

Apart from the more popular South African traditional sports of Football (soccer), Rugby and Cricket, all of which have magnificent stadia, Cape Town also hosts other major athletic events including:

•Cape Argus/Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour - arguably one of the biggest sporting events on the Cape Town calendar that sees some 30 000 cyclists participating in the one of the most scenic cycle tours in the world. The event attracts both competitive and casual cyclists alike and includes various events for the whole family during the week leading up to the cycle. The event is held in March each year.

•Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon - since humble beginnings in 1970, this marathon following a beautiful 56km scenic route around the Cape Peninsula now attracts over 12 000 entrants, including competitors from overseas. Spectators line the course to cheer participants
