Victoria Falls, South Luangwa National Park, Lake Malawi, Zanzibar Island, Masai Tribe
Victoria Falls is an adventurous way to start any tour and this is no exception! Catch up on all the activities in Zimbabwe before leaving for Lusaka in Zambia. We head to South Luangwa National Park where there is a high concentration of leopards and hippos and we start moving into real Africa.
We travel along the edge of Lake Malawi where you can kayak, swim and snorkel in sparkling clear fresh water before ascending out of the Great Rift Valley and on to Dar es Salaam. This tour is offered in a North and South direction and guests can camp or be accommodated
Day 1 Mikumi
Today we leave the humid Indian Ocean coastline and our journey leads us to Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is home to lion, zebra, wildebeest, impala, buffalo and elephant. Today we have the opportunity to enjoy an optional afternoon game drive through the park.
Day 2 Iringa
Today we travel further inland and up to Iringa in the highland tea growing area. This evening our dinner is a traditional Kihehe dinner in a Kihehe hut (local tribe) or dinner in the famous Mud Ruins restaurant.
Day 3 - Nkhata Bay
Today we leave Tanzania and enter Malawi. We ascend out of the Great Rift Valley through some spectacular mountain passes, passing vast tea plantations in the highlands before arriving at our camp.
Day 4 - Nkhotakota Bay Malawi
Leaving Nkhata Bay, we journey north toNkhotakota Bay and our accommodation stop for the night, situated on the shores of Lake Malawi. Here you will have the afternoon free to snorkel in the crystal clear waters or try out the traditional dug out canoe and have fun in trying to master it.
Day 5 - Nkhotakota Bay
For much of the 19th century, it was the busiest slave-trading centre on Lake Malawi By the 1850s, Nkhotakota had become the main terminus from which as many as 20,000 slaves annually were shipped across the lake from present-day Malawi to the Indian Ocean port of Kilwa Kivinje (Tanzania). Today you will have the opportunity to experience the Slave Trade & Historical tour, gaining insight where Arab Traders organised the slave trade to Zanzibar. The tour includes the trees where Livingstone negotiated with the slave traders, the Church built by the first missionaries and the pool in the hills where enemies of the Arabs magically escaped.
Day 6 Lilongwe
Today we depart Nkhotakota Bay and head towards the bustling city of Lilongwe. En route, we will stop at a local market to experience the culture and way of live of the Malawian people.
Day 7 - Zambia South Luangwa National Park
Early in the morning we drive from Malawi and cross in to Zambia and continue to the South Luangwa National Park where we spend the next two nights right on the banks of the Luangwa River. You can often see hippos and other animals from the camp bar. This afternoon we enjoy an included sunset game drive in the South Luangwa NP.
Day 8 - South Luangwa National Park
In the morning you have the opportunity to take another game drive. The park is known for its high concentration of leopards and hippos. After lunch we visit the community run tribal textile project and a local village.
Day 9 Chipata
We leave South Luangwa and drive through to Chipata where we will relax in the afternoon. Zambia is truly Africa, with its lush, sub-tropical vegetation.
Day 10 Lusaka
The journey towards the bustling Zambian capital of Lusaka takes us along an interesting route. On week days there may be the opportunity to visit one of the interesting local markets of the Zambian capital city.
Day 11 - Zimbabwe Victoria Falls
On the last day of the journey we drive from Lusaka, across the Zimbabwean border into Victoria Falls. Although your tour ends here we do recommend that you spend another 1 to 2 nights in this area to experience Victoria Falls and many exciting adrenaline activities here.
