At 572 km2 it is the fourth largest national park in South Africa.The crater of a long extinct volcano is the setting of Pilanesberg National Park - a fascinating alkaline complex produced by volcanic eruptions some 1300 million years ago. Pilanesberg is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. Its rare rock types and structure make it a unique geological feature.Ancient, even by geological time scales, this extinct volcano is the most perfect example of an alkaline ring complex. A number of rare (but not necessarily economically important) minerals occur in the park. Pilanesberg National Park rates high amongst the world's outstanding geological phenomena.Pilanesberg has survived ages of erosion and stands high above the surrounding bushveld plains. The early presence of man can be seen in the numerous Stone and Iron Age sites that are scattered throughout the park.The area is fringed by three concentric ridges or rings of hills - the formation rises from the surrounding plains like a bubble.
The structure of the park is termed the "Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex". The very topography makes the area a feast for the eye. Here are syenite koppies, thickly forested ravines, typical bushveld and also rolling grasslands and lightly wooded areas.Off the centre of the park is Thabayadiotso, "the Proud Mountain" and the beauty of Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam. The Park ranks among the largest of the national parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park) and covers an area of 55 000 hectare.Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and thickets.

2 children under the age of 18 years can share with 2 adults in a Family Room on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Children sharing in their own room pay the full adult rates.
Nightly rates include: Accommodation, dinner, breakfast and 1 complimentary game drive per person.
Rates exclude: Lunch, drinks, items of a personal nature, Park entrance fees for children.
A minimum 2 night stay is required over weekends (Friday & Saturday nights/ Saturday & Sunday nights)
WILDLIFE ACTIVITIES Game Drive 1 Complimentary Game Drive per person, per day.
Bush Braai: No surcharge. Bush braai’s are held (weather permitting, minimum 30 people participating) every Wednesday and Saturday night. If you would like to book a bush braai on an alternative night, a minimum of 30 people is required. If numbers drop the full rate for 30 people will be charged. Prices may be subject to change.
CHILDREN’S POLICY: Children under the age of 18 (maximum two children per room) will be accommodated free of charge on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis if sharing with one or two adults. Children occupying their own rooms will be charged the full adult rate. No children under the age of 5 years are permitted on game drives.
JUNIOR RANGERS: Legacy Junior Rangers program is available for all children aged 6-12 years. Activities are geared around natural resource protection, environmental education and responsible recreation offering a special opportunity to explore the Pilanesberg National Park.

we stayed at this lodge last weekend for my husbands birthday,staff are super friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand. My daughter (3 years old) had a ball and keeps on asking when we are going back.

Enjoyed our stay. Setting of hotel is very nice in Pilanesburg reserve. Had wonderful game drive in reserve with seeing plenty of game including rhinos and elephants. Rooms nice size, clean with lovely bathrooms and very comfortable beds.

We recently had a company conference at Kwa Maritane. Never before have I met such a gem of a Conference Coordinator as I found in Joyce! She was amazing! And she wasnt the only one! The rooms were terrific, the food was fabulous and the setting great!
