The tiny coastal village of Trafalgar is situated about 150 km south of Durban, on the South Coast of Kwa- Zulu Natal.
The main beach is protected by shark nets and provides a decent wave for surfers. When the condition allow, the rocky reef just offshore, provides an excellent spot for snorkelling, where you will find fossilised remains of shellfish, various fish species, plant material and certified wood. These 90 million year old fossil beds are located a short distance from the shoreline, so that at spring tide it is possible for visitors to walk out and examine these ancient remains.
The Trafalgar Marine Reserve is a small area extending for 6 km along the coast and 500 meters offshore. The are incorporates the 190 ha Mpenjati Nature Reserve.
The mysterious Black Lake is hidden away in the lush green indigenous forest of the Yengele Dune Forest only a few meter away from the shoreline. It is rumoured that the lake is 45 m at the deepest point and is the closest freshwater lake to the sea on the entire KZN coastline.
The source of the lake starts high uare p in the Maluti mountains in Lesotho and runs underground till it reaches the Black Lake where it  then filters through the sand dunes into the sea.
The lake is home to some interesting fishing, where you can catch either Big Mouth Black Bass or Tilapia.
There are multiple restaurants, sporting activities, child friendly attractions as well as mountain bike trails, surfing spots and yoga retreats nearby. Mac Banana is a fantastic family restaurant and destination filled with loads to do for all ages right nearby.
