Situated in the private iSibindi Eco-Reserve, in the heart of the Anglo-Zulu battlefields, this 12 bed lodge is a unique combination of exclusive accommodation, wildlife, historical and cultural tours. Guests are invited to explore the game reserve’s diverse habitat during the morning or evening game drives or walks. The iSibindi Eco-Reserve also has a traditional village, which offers authentic tours, and guests are given the opportunity of exploring traditional Zulu food and drink whilst enjoying an evening of energetic Zulu dancing. The cultural homestead tour to nearby villages, trading stores and subsistence farmers, allows guests to interact with Zulu people who have been largely unaffected by modern development. The fascinating history of the area with the close battlefield sites of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift can be explored on a day trip with one of our local historians. There are also Panoramic days trips which visit waterfalls, gorges, rock paintings and local crafts.
Accommodation is offered in one of 6 luxury beehive suites, architecturally inspired by the traditional beehive shape, offer panoramic views of the game reserve, en-suite with bath and shower, overhead fans & heaters. There is electricity at Isibindi. The rooms have overhead fans, power points and tea/coffee making facilities. Limited cell phone coverage and limited Internet. Hair dryers in rooms and safes in all rooms.
Guided game drives and walks are available on request and subject to availability. All drives are in open game viewing vehicles. The game farm can also be explored on foot as we have no dangerous predators. Do bear in mind that there are snakes in the bush, so always keep your eyes open! We encourage you to walk as much as you like.
We have 18 species of hoofed mammals on the reserve, including Giraffe, Burchell’s Zebra, Black Wildebeest (White-tailed Gnu), Blue Wildebeest (Common Gnu), Red Hartebeest, Nyala, Bushbuck, Blesbok, Waterbuck, Common and Mountain Reedbuck, Impala, Kudu, Grey Duiker, Steenbok and Warthog. There is also a diverse array of carnivores including the elusive Leopard and smaller species such as Black-backed Jackal, 3 Mongoose species, Caracal (Lynx), 2 otter species and the Honey Badger (Ratel). The birdlife here is abundant and extremely rewarding for keen birders. Even novice birders will have a fabulous time spotting! Our species list currently stands at 234.
