Uganda is a landlocked country located in east-central Africa, situated north and northwest of Lake Victoria. It is bordered by Sudan on the North, Kenya on the east, Tanzania on the South, Rwanda on the southwest and Congo on the northwest.

Its greater consists of a plateau about 4,000 ft in height. Along the west is the Ruwenzori Mountains while on the east Mount Elgon contrast, the Western Rift Valley, which runs from north to south through the western half of the country. The White Nile River has its source in Lake Victoria.

Uganda is located on the equator and is 3 hours ahead of GMT. It has a warm climate and temperatures vary through out the year. As for visa requirements you can be issued a visa at the airport or any port of entry.

It is a beautiful country with impressive people. Its stunning landscape with green rolling hills and snow-capped mountains attracts tourists. Outstanding parks are there for tourist encounter with wildlife. Uganda presents wonders of nature, traditional customs and modern attraction.
Uganda uses Ugandan shillings. Banks and forex bureaus are available. Most credit cards are accepted.

Getting Around Uganda
Air Uganda offers flights to major towns. There are train services from Kampala to Kasese and Tororo but the service is slow and uncomfortable. Bus services also connect from all main towns and are at a fixed rate. Cross border Bus Service between Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Activities in Uganda
Several parks and game reserves are in and around the country. The parks are with real African jungle, with dense undergrowth and a wide variety of flowers. Over 350 species of birds, monkeys, chimpanzees and several other mammals can be found in the parks. Camping facilities are available at most of the game reserves.

Most areas of interest, to the tourist are in the south west part of the country where you find the famous Great Rift Valley. Enjoy the rural charm of untouched Africa.
You can enjoy gorilla watching because Uganda is popular for its mountain gorillas. They can be seen in Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks. Gorilla tracking draws tourists and tracking permits need to be booked in advance to avoid disappointments. Gorilla troops can be viewed from three different locations.

Fishing can be done on Lake Victoria 55km from Entebe. The thick forests of Uganda have a variety of birds. Knowledgeable bird guides can show you sights and sounds of Uganda.
Since the roads are bad you can enjoy a 4 x 4 drive around the dusty potholed roads. You can get a driver to drive you or you can drive on your own.

Mountain climbing and hiking can be done on the Ruwenzori Mountain which lies along the border with DRC. It has a summit of 5 109m. To the west of it is the endless DRC jungle where several mammals can be seen.

Accommodation in Uganda
Accommodation in Uganda is not that expensive with at least a hotel room as little as $35 per night. Several hotels, lodges and chalets are located all over. You can get something that suits you. Self contained cottages, dormitory facilities are available. For recreation the guests can relax at the hotel pools. Most of the restaurants and bars are available to the public for seven days a week.

Food and goods can be bought from shops and is affordable. Traditional foods are available, fresh produce fruits and vegetables, mealies and roasted chicken are available on the market. Lots of fast food places are in town.
