Chingola is a copper-mining center, located on the Copperbelt. The city was founded in 1943 to provide services for the adjacent copper-mining center of Nchanga. It is 400km north of Lusaka.
Chingola is the home of Nchanga Open Pit Mine, the second largest open cast mine in the world. Chingola has an underground mine. A mine tailings dam about 7 km south of the city covers 24 km².
The town has two hospitals: Nchanga North General Hospital and Nchanga South Hospital (privately-owned by the mines, bed capacity about 100).

Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, a sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees lies 60 km north-west of Chingola. It’s a home for over fifty chimpanzees housed in two enclosures.

Getting to Chingola
Zambia Airways has scheduled flights from
Lusaka to Kitwe or Ndola
Inter Air flies directly to Ndola from Johannesburg.
By road, the Copperbelt is easily reached from Lusaka. Take the Great North Road to Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, and then Ndola.
