Molteno is a country town in the Stormberg Mountains. It was founded in 1874 after low grade coal had been discovered in the area and was named after the Prime Minister of the Cape, Sir John Molteno.

Molteno is a country town in the Stormberg Mountains. It was founded in 1874 after low grade coal had been discovered in the area and was named after the Prime Minister of the Cape, Sir John Molteno. The town is in the centre of a stock farming comunity and the town has several interesting structures, notably the Dutch Reformed Church, a red brick building with sandstone quoining. There are several farm stays and game farms in the area.
