CAPE ST FRANCIS
Cape St Francis is the most southerly point on the African continent after Cape Aghulas in the Western Cape. Named by Portuguese mariners during their epic exploration of the southern reaches of Africa over five hundred years ago, Cape St Francis is made up of three resorts.
Cape St Francis resort is at the actual cape, near the lighthouse that was erected in the 1870s, to the east of the cape is a small sandy bay that is safe for swimming, and became famous for its ideal surfing when the conditions are right after the area was featured in the 60s surfing movie, Endless Summer.
Further up the coast are the resorts of St Francis Bay, Sea Vista and Port St Francis. These resorts overlook St Francis Bay, one of the biggest along the South African coast, famous for its long sandy beaches. St Francis bay is well known for its pleasing townscape of white thatch roofed houses, its systems of canals and the splendid golf course in the town. St Francis is also on the edge of the rugged southern cape coast and offers many opportunities for exploring, surfing, skin diving or simply relaxing.
