Windhoek is the capital city for Namibia. The attractive town is boarded by Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas mountains in the south.
The city center of Windhoek lies on both sides of the Independence Avenue, and can be explored by foot.
There is still great influence of the Germans. There are German restaurants where one can have traditional German dishes, bread and beer, and even celebrate the German carnival.
Windhoek has an international airport 45 kilometers out of town and a broad spectrum of hotels, guesthouses, safari and tour operators as well as car rentals.
Getting to Windhoek
Direct international flights are available from different destinations connecting to Windhoek. Namibia has good tarred roads. Windhoek is connected to Cape Town and Johannesburg via InterCape Mainliner. Namibia used to be connected by rail but now Railways run within the country only. Licensed taxis within cities are a good way to get around.
Windhoek Weather
The sun shines almost every day of the year. The weather is always warm to mild even in mid-winter. Windhoek has the hottest months, between April and June or March and October.
