Morrungulo is in the Inhambane Province, to the north bordered by Manica and Safala provinces, on the South and East by the Indian Ocean and the West by Gaza province. This area is the home of Matshwa, Bitonga and Chopi people.
Morrungulo is situated 560 km north of Maputo. Massinga is the closest town, approximately 20kms away where most basic supplies can be bought. Petrol is available and telephone calls can be made from the post office. Inhambane is 100Km south and Vilanculos is about 200 km further north.
The Morrungulo Resort is located 7km north of the town of Massinga. It is an isolated area featuring a well-established dive center offering diving instruction, snorkeling, swimming and excellent big game fishing. 40 km north of it is a peninsula with a pristine mangrove forest on one side and the sea on the other.
Morrungulo is a beach location north of
Inhambane. It can be reached by a normal 2 wheel drive car. It is a resort with a stretch of coastline with palm tree for diving explorations and fishing. Despite being remote it can be reached in a 2 wheel drive vehicle.
Accommodation in Morrungulo
Morrungulo Holiday Resort - self catering accommodation and camping in a beautiful landscape with access to the beach. Linen and mosquito nets are provided. Campers have the use of clean and tiled ablution facilities with GAS geyser showers and flushing toilets.
The resort also caters for the deep sea fisherman and the scuba divers. At the resort you are not only the coconut palms but also have green lawns, indigenous trees, fresh drinking water and good security. A generator provides electricity at certain times.
La Rosa camping is slightly cheaper.
Where to eat
Dalilo's Restaurant is on the main road of Massinga. It is famous for its Mozambican style chicken curry, cooked with coconut milk, or the vegetarian peanut curry. Food is ordered one hour before you plan to eat.
There is a must stop Bakery owned by a local man. Freshly baked bread is available early in the morning and when it is busy in the afternoon. You can find the Bakery on the Morrungulo sand road, about half way to Morrungulo Lodge.
NB Cell phone connection in Morrunguolo is not a problem, but by the sea side resorts, it is not available. The nearest place for reception from the beach, in case of an emergency is on top of the hill, by the bakery 12km past Morrungulo Lodge.

The Zambia reef has outstanding hard and soft corals.
Indian Ocean warm water is ideal for snorkelling, diving and whale watching trips are organized. NB: Look out for the falling coconuts.
