The Macaneta Beach is 31km from Maputo. It is a peninsula bordered by Ncomati river and the Indian ocean. During the Portuguese colonial time it was a popular holiday town but suffered a lot from the war with marks of bullets still being seen in some of the walls.

Getting to Macaneta
To reach Macaneta you use a ferry to cross the Ncomati River. The trip over takes about 20 minutes. The ferry is shared with locals, goats, boats, trailers, tractors. The journey is safe though. You can catch the ferry from 6 in the morning to 7 at night.

Once over the ferry on a sandy road for 5km you will reach a trading store where you take the right fork to Tan n Biki, another 600 meters along this road you turn left at the boat wreck on the left side, follow our signs to the camp. There are friendly and diligent Mozambique staff who will welcome and assist you with all your camping needs. A fish market is by the dock where you get fresh crabs, prawns at a negotiable price.
If you drive an hour from Maputo, five minutes ferry trip across the Nkomati River and 6.5km on a sand road you get to the resort at Barcos de Macaneta.
The chalets at Barcos de Macaneta are fitted with air condition, fridges and freezer, pots and cutlery. Each chalet has its own braai area surrounded by a natural bush to give you privacy.
Cleaning Services are available at a charge at Barcos de Macaneta
Bar and Restaurant bar works on demand and has a basic menu.
Activities- Visit the Lapa for a swim, and a beach party

Macaneta Holiday Resort has the safest beaches, good hospitality, best seafood and temperate water. If you are driving from South Africa it is only 2/3 hours from Nelspruit. From Gating follow N4, turn to Xai Xai EN1 turn right at Marracuene. If you are driving from Durban follow EN2 to EN1 and turn right

Marracuene Lodge is located 35 kilometres north of Maputo at the mouth of the Incomati River and only a short boat trip to Macaneta Beaches. It is just before the first village that you see after Maputo going to the North. Facilities that are there are 6 sleeper chalets, 3 1 bed roomed chalets and camping facilities. You can have visits to the cultural village, boat trips to Xefina Island, traditional dancing, Maputo day tours in open Land Rover.

Marracuene Lodge is located just before Marracuene Village, the first village, when you leave Maputo town going towards the North. The facilities available include: 2 Two bedrooms Chalet (6 Sleeper), 3 One bedroom Chalets, Camping facilities with ablution block and a rustic shop. There are two boats for hire and canoes for guests to use in the river.
