Bilene

Bilene is one of the most popular beaches 190km from Maputo. 160km from Maputo you turn right and drive 30km on a reasonably good road then you reach the village of Bilene and the lagoon. You can cross by boat or drive the long way with a 4wd.

The lagoon is 27km long and is an ideal family spot with long bright white stretches of sand for beach games and shallow, calm water for safe swimming. This place is idle for conferences.

Bilene resort is popular for water sports like jet-ski’s, water-skiing and parasailing, paddle-ski’s, and windsurfing. The mouth of the lagoon is reached by boat but a long difficult 4X4 track does allow access to the beach facing the open sea. Local market in the village with basic products and vegetables. Good fish and Prawns but no meat.
Petrol station in the village supply diesel and Super only + Gas refills.
Water is not drinkable, they do sell mineral water.

Bilene Holiday
The town has numerous restaurants and bars as well as a weekend disco. Petrol and diesel are both available at Praia do Bilene. There are also various simple shops and a market where you can buy basic products.

Mahelane Lodge
And over the dunes behind the lodge, a leisurely 20 minute walk will lead you to the wide open waters of the sea. Chalets have fans and are not self-catering.

The Lodge is fully catered for with a full al a carte restaurant and fully stocked bars. Visitors are not allowed to bring their own food. If you wish to have diner elsewhere it should not be anytime after 8.30pm because boats will no longer be available. After 8 fishermen do their fishing during the night.

Praia do Sol
Praia do sol has a rare treat. Municipality offers electricity in all the chalets but there are no plug points.
The 36 Bed Chalets are carefully placed single and double story nicely surrounded by natural vegetation. The Chalets are from timber, natural reeds, grass and stone. All chalets have linen, fans, mosquito nets, and coils; there is a kettle with tea and coffee, bath and beach towels are also supplied. When town power is down there is a generator.
A restaurant and bar have an outside, open patio which is situated right next to the beach. It’s an ideal place for a cocktail. Restaurants in town serve delicious Portuguese cuisine.
The resort offers diving, fishing and many water sports activities - windsurfing, paddle skis, barge trips, sailing, water skiing and jet skis. Dolphins are common.
Those who do not enjoy sport can relax next to the pool.

Complexo Palmeiras
Palmeiras is situated under big trees. There are chalets built of brick and have a bathroom en-suite and camping available. All chalets have 2 rooms and 4 beds with mattresses, lights, veranda, bed linen, fridge, table with chairs. There is a braai area but you must bring your own coking utensils.

The campsite has brick ablution facilities with hot and cold water. Not all sites can have caravans. There is a restaurant and bar which serves Portuguese breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A pool table and dart board is in the bar area. During high season the resort runs ferry trips across the lagoon to the sea.
