Burundi is a landlocked country in east-central Africa. It borders with Rwanda to its north, Tanzania to the east and south and to the west by Zaire.
Burundi is very mountainous, with a western range of mountains running north and south and continuing into Rwanda.
The major rivers form natural boundaries for most the country. The country has a tropical highland climate with temperatures varying from regions. It is 2 hours ahead of GMT and all visitors to the country require visas. There are no regular domestic flights but local buses and taxis are found around Bujumbura. Roads are generally in good conditions during the dry season.
The choice of food in the country is limited. Most of the food is boiled but is affordable. Currently all the hotels are in the capital. Elsewhere in the country there is no accommodation. Camping currently is very dangerous. Inn the capital there are buildings that still stand which are from the time the country was colonized by the German’s. Other attractions are the museums with an open village displaying Burundi culture. There is excellent market. You can also stare at the beautiful central plains of the former royal city. You can study the art and craft of Burundi and admire the country’s divers and mountain forests.
The security situation in the country has stabilized but the issue of ambushes by the rebels still stands. Travelers are advised against traveling to the rural border of Congo.
