Burkina Faso Location and size
Burkina Faso is surrounded by six countries, Mali to the north, Niger to the east, Benin to the south east, Togo and Ghana to the south, and the Côte d'Ivoire to the southwest. It is a relatively flat country, without sea access, covering an area of 274 200 square kilometers.

As a country with a hot tropical climate, Burkina Faso has rainy season from May to September, and the dry season with hot dry winds from Sahara. Average temperature in Ouagadougou is 41 °C.

Burkina Faso Infrastructure
Air France is the main airline with scheduled flights to Ouagadougou, Air Volta operates local airline service. Regular bus service connects the main cities throughout the country, but can be suspended during bad weather season. Many roads are impassable during the rains period. One main train connection exists between Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso.

Burkina Faso Health
Medical care providers will probably accept only cash, so for an emergency case, be sure to have sufficient amount with you. You can claim the reimbursement from your insurance company later, if you follow their rules for such cases. The quality of healthcare is generally low, with unfunded personnel and shortage of pharmaceuticals.

Sun
The African sun can be very harsh. Sun blocks, hats and sunglasses are essential during the summer months.

Burkina Faso Safety
Main cities are mostly safe. Use common sense; ask local trusted people about any safety issues. It is strictly prohibited to photograph important places and offices, post-offices and railway stations including, detention and repressions for offence is highly probable. Petty street crime is common.

Burkina Faso Driving
Visitors intending to drive do not require an international driver’s permit, but it is highly recommended to have one. If you do not, local authorities will issue a temporary permit based on your national driving permit. Cars can be rarely rented, and only in very bad condition.
