Larger than Denmark or Switzerland, and bigger than Lesotho and Swaziland combined, the 52,800 square kilometre Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which was set up in 1961, is the second largest game reserve in the world.

Stretching across six countries, the Kalahari Desert is nowhere more beautiful and classic than in its heartland in central Botswana - remote, a true wilderness and a refuge of the traditional San (Bushmen) people. These people inhabit the southern and western reaches of the Kalahari and the wildlife is in the north.
