The main hotel building reception, library and lounge, formerly the Railway training college was built by Scottish masons in the early 1900s. Driving Directions:
From Port Elizabeth direction, take the N2 towards Grahamstown. At the interchange to Grahamstown, take the N10 direction towards Cradock. Once past the town of Patterson, be on the look-out for the Alicedale turn-off to the right. The 17 kilometre gravel road leads directly into the heart of Alicedale. Future developments include tarring of this road.

Bushman Sands is a mere 100 km from the Port Elizabeth Airport. Alternatively,
Shamwari Game Reserve, 30 minutes from Alicedale is equipped with a private landing strip. Air charters can be arranged with registered charter companies or private aircraft. Prior arrangements must be made with Shamwari Game Reserve Management.
